Summer House of Studies – June 21-25, 2020
This summer, Dr. Mark Mattes, Professor of Philosophy and Religion at Grand View University in Des Moines, will be offering a class comparing the theologies of Jenson and Forde at the ILT main campus in Brookings, SD. We would like to invite everyone to participate in this class. You do not need to be an ILT student to join us. We would ask that you pay $100 to cover food, but there will be no other cost to ILT associated with this course (except of course for those students taking this course for credit).
"Forde and Jenson were two of the most important North American Lutheran theologians in the late Twentieth century. Hailing from a common background in Lutheran orthodoxy, each responded to this heritage, as well as the theology of Karl Barth and Existentialism prevailing mid-century, in their own ways. Their legacies result in significant differences in ecumenical commitments, worship life, and articulating Christian doctrine. Through a close reading of their most important theological texts, we will seek to access where and how the two thinkers are similar and different, how their views continue to influence theology and policy, and the degree to which they are compatible."
If you are interested in spending a week in Brooking studying theology with our students, please let us know. We have a couple of options for housing. For more information about housing please contact Bryan Katz.
