On November 8, 2019, the Concordia Historical Institute (CHI) held their annual awards banquet on the campus of Concordia Seminary (of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod). The CHI is devoted to furthering the study of American Lutheran history and offers a selected number of awards annually for books and articles that they consider significant contributions to this field of study. For the second year in a row, ILT's Instructor of Christian History, Thomas Jacobson, was honored by the CHI for his work, this time for his article that appeared last year in Lutheran Forum entitled "The Forgotten Fate of Hauge's Synod." With the award, the CHI committee stated the following: "To Thomas E. Jacobson for the article 'The Forgotten Fate of Hauge's Synod,' a well-written and researched article documenting the rise and fall of the small minority group of Norwegian-American Lutherans known as Hauge's Synod. The article provides valuable background and insight into a relatively little-known aspect of Norwegian-American Lutheran history." Jacobson responded, "I am honored once again to receive the Award of Commendation from Concordia Historical Institute for my work in American Lutheran history. My article in Lutheran Forum is essentially a summary of my dissertation, which was completed last year. It was a joy to bring to light the small but highly influential tradition of Hauge's Synod.
