Over the past month the Institute of Lutheran Theology had the opportunity to interview three great candidates for the title of Dean of Academic Affairs at ILT. This is the office that has been occupied by Dr. Jonathan Sorum, who has announced his retirement from this position at the end of September to pursue theological teaching and research full-time here at ILT.
After much thought and prayer, we have decided not to fill the Position as it was originally advertised. While the Institute of Lutheran Theology is growing and its tuition revenue steadily increasing, we have determined that filling the position at this time simply places too much pressure on ILT donors to keep budgets in the black.
Instead of immediately filling the Position advertised, my Office shall be working with both the graduate and certificate faculties to develop more opportunities for faculty leadership. In the short term, the administrative duties in academics will be assumed by both Executive Vice President Leon Miles and me. I will assume the title of Chief Academic Officer (CAO) along with CEO — this is how things once were at ILT — and Leon will exercise more administrative leadership within academics.
Please know that the Institute will continue to move forward during this time. Our Ph.D. program took in a great group of candidates this fall, and we are presently all at work in designing and developing an undergraduate program that will be very strong in Scriptural studies. Stay tuned for exciting announcements!
