The Institute of Lutheran Theology (ILT) Academic Catalog for the 2019-2020 academic year represents the latest efforts of the ILT staff and faculty to expand the educational offerings at ILT. The ILT programs are listed under three categories: Lay Education Programs, Seminary Programs, and Graduate Degree Programs. Each of these categories has new programs to be offered in the fall of 2019. Each of these new programs is consistent with ILT’s mission to equip faithful pastors, teachers, and lay people to effectively proclaim the gospel and serve Christ’s church throughout the world.
Lay Education Programs
This year ILT is adding the Life in Christ Certificate program. This program is laid out in four 7-week modules. These modules are designed to bridge the gap between Sunday morning Bible study and undergraduate level theological studies. Starting in the Fall of 2019, ILT will offer the first of three Life in Christ Certificates. This certificate will help students to read the Bible and will take them through the historical narrative of the Old and New Testaments. ILT now offers three lay education programs: the Bethel Bible Series Teacher Training, the Faith and Life Certificate (undergraduate level), the Life in Christ Certificate Program (less than undergraduate level).
ILT offers four seminary programs. This includes the Pastoral Ministry Certificate, the Youth and Family Certificate, the Master of Divinity, and the Doctor of Ministry. For Fall 2019, ILT is adding two new programs to bring this number to six. ILT will offer a Master of Ministry degree program and a Master of Military Chaplaincy degree program. This gives students the option between a 36 hour certificate, a 44 credit hour degree, a 72 credit hour degree, and a 90 credit hour degree as ways into congregational ministry. Each of these focus on different aspects and are taught at different levels so that students can find the program that will best serve them.
Graduate Degree Programs
For those who wish to study theology from an academic perspective, ILT offers two degree programs, Master of Arts in Religion and Master of Sacred Theology. In the fall of 2019, ILT will be offering a third program, the Doctor of Philosophy Degree. This degree is 45 total credit hours, which includes the dissertation. With these three programs, ILT fulfills its mission to raise up the next generation of theologians and teachers.
The new catalog includes a total of twelve programs, three of which are new. ILT is committed, not only to providing the highest quality of education, but to creating programs that serve the needs of students. Each of the programs give options for theological study and ministry preparation. To find out which program is best for you, please call ILT and talk to our admissions staff.
