Pastors from South Dakota gathered earlier this week at Peace Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Brookings SD for the South Dakota District LCMS Pastors Conference. During this 2 day conference (April 4th and 5th) pastors along with medical professionals from around the area were invited to present and discuss on bioethics medical ethics and along with the ethics in dealing with end of life issues. Presenters included two ILT faculty members; Pastor Timothy Rynearson, Chair of the Pastoral Theology Department, presented on the issues pastors face in these areas and how health care workers can collaborate with pastors to provide care for patients. Pastor David Knefelkamp, Greek Instructor, led Bible study and also presented on Luke as a physician and the use of medical language in the Bible. Other presenters included health care professionals from the local area who helped to shed light on issues from different perspectives in the medical field.
This conference was an attempt to start a discussion about how church and health care providers can collaborate in the care of people in local communities. A special thanks goes out to Peace Lutheran Church, Pastor Tim Rynearson and all of the other volunteers who helped produce this conference.
