The South Dakota Board of Regents by Special Resolution on December 2, 2015, granted Dr. Dennis Bielfeldt the title of Emeritus Professor of Philosophy and Religion at South Dakota State University. Dr. Bielfeldt taught in the Philosophy and Religion Department at South Dakota State University for 15 years, and has taught at the college, university and seminary level for over 30 years. His well-respected scholarship in “Reformation Studies, Philosophy of Mind and Philosophy of Religion” have led to positions of leadership in “regional and national religious communities,” – including serving two years as President of the Upper Midwest American Academy of Religion. The Special Resolution also recognizes Dr. Bielfeldt as “an excellent scholar of international repute,” as “modeling excellence in musical performance,” and as providing “key leadership in the Brookings business community." Bielfeldt retired early as a tenured Professor of Philosophy and Religion in 2010 in order to work on building the Institute of Lutheran Theology.
