One Week with the Gospel of John

Twelve ILT students gathered in Brookings this week to study the Gospel of John with Dr. Dan Lioy. These students came together from many parts of North America. Two students came from Canada and the other students came from many places in the U.S. (TX, MN, VA, WI, SD). These students also come from different programs. Students from the Master of Arts, Master of Divinity, Master of Sacred Theology, and Doctor of Ministry participated in this course. ILT offers two Houses of Study each year. ILT students typically take classes online and meet only using video conferencing software. The House of Studies events bring students together in a location for a week, either at a local congregation, or

Ending in the Black

As June comes to a close, we are coming to the end of another fiscal year and to our current fund-raising campaign. We solicit support from individual donors three or four times a year. Each of these fund-raisers plays an important part in the life ILT. As is the case with many non-profits this time of the year, we need your help to “end in the black.”.. The goal for this campaign was to raise $100,000. As of today, we have raised half of that. There is still time. Please prayerfully consider giving something now to help us reach our goal. Why should I give, you say? Your donation is more than a gift but an investment in the future of the church. ILT has nearly sixty graduates so far and all

A Historic Meeting

The Board of Directors for the Institute of Lutheran Theology met on Tuesday, June 12 and Wednesday, June 13, 2018. There were many items on the agenda, among which changes to the ILT logo, the addition of a PH.D. program, the addition of a 72-credit hour master’s degree in military chaplaincy, and the budget for fiscal year 2018-2019 were most significant. The Board dealt with the issue of modifying the ILT logo to make the name ‘Christ School of Theology’ more prominent. We surveyed our constituents, and many who responded were solidly in favor of moving forward with this. A number of others, however, did not feel comfortable with the change. The board decided to take no formal action at t

Let's Vote: A New Logo for ILT

The ILT Board will meet next week and discuss changing the name we brand publicly from ‘Institute of Lutheran Theology’ to ‘ILT - Christ School of Theology’. (Some of you might recalls that ILT has since its beginnings used ‘Christ School of Theology’ to refer to its graduate school.) Our Board shall also choose then between two options on a logo upgrade. We invite you to give us important feedback on the naming and logo issues before the board meeting. Let us explain. First of all, ILT cannot go away from our Lutheran identity. Institutional policy requires

What’s in a Name?

The accreditation process has been very good for ILT. It brought many helpful institutional changes. Accreditation promotes an ongoing process of institutional self-evaluation. Self-reflection and self-evaluation are now a part of the life-blood of ILT. One way this is influencing ILT is that we are considering if the name “Institute of Lutheran Theology” really is the right name for what this school is, or if there is a better one? Please take time to read this carefully. We would like to have responses to give to the ILT Board to help them decide in June. Any feedback you might have will be appreciated. ILT is committed to preparing pastors for LCMC, NALC, CALC, and ALC, and we have done t
