February has been a busy month for the Institute of Lutheran Theology (ILT) and its Dean of Student and Religious Life, Rev. Timothy J. Swenson. As Dean of Chapel for ILT, Rev. Swenson made three journeys in the first two weeks of the month: 1) to Orlando, FL; 2) to Bloomington, MN; and 3) to El Paso, TX. There he was able to reconnect with ILT graduates and current students. Rev. and Mrs. Swenson journeyed to the North American Lutheran Church (NALC) Pastors’ Conference held February 2-5 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Orlando, FL. ILT announces 15 fellowships, which will be available in August for fulltime students willing to relocate to our Brookings, South Dakota campus. These fellowship opportunities are made available due to the courtesy of a generous donor from North Dakota. Students selected for fellowships will receive a $5,000 scholarship, another $5,000 in tuition paid through a work-study program with ILT, and FREE housing. During this fellowship students will enroll to complete 30 credit hours of course work during their year in Brookings. This will give students the opportunity to take courses in ILT’s classroom studio with other students and faculty throughout North America, while also being able to study
On January 21st – January 22nd, ILT’s board members along with ILT staff met in Minneapolis to conduct their bi-annual Board of Directors meeting. The level of Board involvement and commitment was beautifully demonstrated by the fact that ten of eleven of the Directors were in attendance at this meeting and that the eleventh member made a significant contribution in writing. The staff reports received at this meeting including the Presidential, Financial, Academic and Institutional Advancement Reports. These reports were received with appreciation and encouragement.
